Frequently asked questions about Account Verification Services (AVS)
What's the 'Verify account' option I see when I'm making a payment?
You can use this feature to check if the bank account number and beneficiary name you have matches the information of the account holder. This helps to prevent accidental payments to the wrong person or company.

By entering their details, we can confirm that the account number exists and whether the owner's name matches the name that you gave us.
What types of accounts can I verify before making a payment?
You can verify any Standard Bank transactional account and accounts at other banks, including:
  • Absa
  • African Bank
  • Capitec
  • Discovery
  • FNB
  • Grindrod
  • Investec
  • Nedbank
  • Sasfin
Can I make a payment without verifying the account?
Yes, verifying an account is optional.
What if I don't have the ID, passport or registration number for the account that I'm paying?
You'll need at least one of these to verify an account. Consider asking the beneficiary for these details before you pay them.
Should I add spaces when entering the 13-digit ID when verifying an account number?
No, leave out any spaces in the ID number.
What if the business account doesn't have a registration number?
If a business doesn’t have a registration number, you won’t be able to verify the account.
What does it mean if I receive a message saying, ‘No matches found’?
The details you entered don't match those we have on record. You can still make the payment, or you could try to get more details from the beneficiary before trying to verify them again.
What does it mean if the ID number matches but the other fields don’t?
We found a partial match of the beneficiary based on the details you entered. You can still make the payment, or you could try to get more details from the beneficiary before trying to verify them again.
